Jo Harvelle. Call me Joanna, get your ass kicked. Don't challenge me to poker or pool. You'll lose. Don't think I can't throw a punch, a knife, or shoot a gun. You'll be sorely mistaken. |
When Sam finally stepoed into view Dean began to slowly breathe out and relax a little against the seat but he immediately stopped when he noticed that his brother wasn’t alone. There was a girl with him. Except Dean was pretty sure that she wasn’t really a girl because she was tied up with something that looked suspiciously much like silver. Dean could feel himself start to shake. It was the shifter. It was the shifter and Sam was planning on taking it along for the ride.
“No,” he mumbled, eyes widening with fear, and started fumbling to get the door open. “No, no…” They couldn’t bring the shifter with them. The others… they didn’t know. He needed to get out…He needed to get them out too before…Where was his gun?
Lex bit back a sound when the silver made contact with her wrists. While it didn’t necessarily cut into her skin, it still burned like hell. She tensed when the hunter—Sam—stepped behind her and began pulling the wire around her neck, causing her hands to be pulled up to her chest. Very limited movement. Not fun.
She didn’t resist getting into the car, ignoring how the hunter slammed the door shut. Lex glanced over at Dean, trying to figure out what was causing his distress—-oh. Right. Skinwalker in the car. She glanced at everyone else in the car the best she could before looking out the window.
Jo knew automatically why Dean began to freak and she pulled the door shut. “It’s okay, Dean. She’s just a skinwalker. It’s not the shifter.”

Sam licked his lips, clearing as much blood from them and his teeth as possible and he shivered slightly. Flipping the knife in his hand he tilted his head and stared at her. “Right. So you just so happen to show up right outside the lair of a shifter. Aren’t you guys like, cousins or something?”
Sam turned back to the open boot and pulled out a thin wire. He held it out in front of him. “So, you come with, bound. This is silver sweetheart. I’m not letting you loose around Dean in case you decide he’s some kind of meal on legs. Or, you stay. Sit! Stay!” Sam chuckled. “Though if what you say is true, then I wouldn’t want to be hanging around with a pissed off sadistic shifter on the loose.”
Sam looped the wire around into a loose knot and tied it off, “Wrists… and neck. Or leave now before I change my mind about leaving you bloody.”
Sam flicked his eyes back to the car, Dean was inside with Jo, and he had no more time to waste before they got moving. God knew how long it would take for the shifter to realise they were gone.
———-
Dean nodded, slowly at Jo’s response and looked out the window again, wishing he could believe her. But the shifter had gotten to him once, there was no guarantee that it wouldn’t happen again. The thing could make itself look like anyone and it was still out there, possibly still looking for him. Dean closed his eyes and tried to keep the bile from rising in his throat, puking right now wouldn’t do him any good.
He could hear Sam’s voice outside but he couldn’t bring himself to listen to what’s being said or who it was he was talking to. Dean hadn’t seen anyone else when they carried him outside.
When Jo’s voice registered with him again, he shook his head and clutched the jacket a little tighter around himself. “I’m f…It’s fine. Just wanna get out of here.”
Lex really isn’t sure what’s safer: taking her chances with the ‘sadistic’ shifter or hanging out with at least one hunter. She had a feeling the other two humans were hunters, too, which made her feel extremely nervous.
“Actually, for your information, I followed the shifter here. Just about got hit by it’s damn car.”
She almost snorted but held it back in time, “Oh, the hunter has jokes? ‘Sit’, ‘stay’, how original. Never heard those before.” Lex said sarcastically, shook her head, and thought for half a second. While she wasn’t looking forward to being tied up in silver…she had just gone against a shape-shifter and those things could be pretty nasty if they really wanted to be.
With a heavy sigh, Lex stepped forward hesitantly and stuck out her wrists, “Fine. At least you’re not completely stupid.”
So, this had definitely turned into an interesting night. She almost got hit by a truck, actually helped hunters, and now she was going on a road trip with said hunters. Then again, the ‘road trip’ wasn’t going to be very comfortable since she’d be spending it in silver.
Interesting was a bit of an understatement.
She nods, looking out at Sam and the…girl? Whatever. “Sam, let’s get out of here before he comes back.” She paused, looking the girl over. “Is she coming with then?”

Somehow they managed to manhandle Dean back to the car between them. Sam’s eyes flicked around, looking for any signs of another trap, attack or… Ruby… She’d disappeared again. Sam tipped Dean onto the roof while Jo supported him, opening the back door and pressing on Dean’s head to get him to duck and sit down on the seat, helping to lift his legs in after him. At least in the back he could lie down. Closing the door he looked at Jo. “Get in.” he said blatantly, limping around to the trunk and flipping it open again.
Sam tore another blood pack open with his teeth, not caring about the mess he made as he gorged himself. He was covered in blood anyway, from the gunshot in his shoulder, the bite raked into his leg and the splinters embedded in his face. He reached back into the trunk and turned to face the dog, flicking a knife in his hand, glinting silver in the light. “So… Skinwalker. What’s your game? Talk fast. You have ten seconds before I gut you and leave. Dean needs attention. You helped us, but that’s about the only thing you have in your favour right now.” Sam grinned, his mouth still smeared in demon blood. “Nine, Eight, Seven…”
————
They more or less carried Dean out of the silo and towards Sam’s car. The fresh air felt good against his face and out here the smell wasn’t quite so obvious as it had been inside. Dean blinked as he felt tears well up in his eyes. It was over and they were taking him home, away from this place. He climbed into the car with a little help from the others and curled up against the door, with Sam’s jacket still wrapped firmly around him. Lying down made him feel too vulnerable. He quickly rolled down the window and then rested his head against the door.
“Is…is he dead?” he asked
Lex is a little surprised when they arrived at the vehicles without any kind of trouble popping up. She sat on the ground, watching the humans work. It really shouldn’t have surprised her when Sam brought out the silver knife.
She waited half a second before shifting, rolling her eyes at the human. “Thought you needed some help, so I helped. That’s it. I’m not playing a game, just thought I’d do my good deed of the day.”
Lex looked back over at Dean, who was now settled in the car, and then back at Sam. She shifted slightly, glancing at the silver knife, “That knife really isn’t necessary, if I wanted to kill you or hurt you in any way I would have already.”
Jo pauses at Dean’s question and shakes her head. “No. But we’ll take care of him, Dean. I promise. He won’t touch you again, okay,” she promises. She glances back at Sam and shakes her head before glancing at Dean.
“You pleading anyplace I need to patch before we get to the hotel?”

From 3x18, The Son Also Rises: “I loved a woman once.”
This. This scene, this part. It’s beautiful and the sheer emotion in his voice makes my heart feel as if someone is gripping it tight. It hurts and I love it.
Well now, this makes my story about my wife all the more poignant.
